When is the Best Time to Get a DNA Paternity Test?

A DNA Paternity Test can be performed anytime after the first trimester of pregnancy, but in order to eliminate risks, it is recommended to wait until after the child is born. Once the child is born, a paternity test can be administered at any time without risk to any party. The DNA samples from the potential father, child, and mother are collected using a swab of loose cheek cells from each party, which can be gathered at any time, from the comfort of your own home or in a medical facility.

If the test is to be used for legal purposes, it must be administered in a medical facility and it is advisable to request a DNA Paternity Test within 60 days and no longer than 300 days after the birth to either eliminate the possibility of rescission (refusal of parentage) or in order to deny parentage with minimal legal complications. After this period, however, a DNA Tests can still be requested (often court-ordered) and will be just as certain in determining the child's parentage.

If the request is for peace of mind; for example, in the case that a father wants to know his biological relationship to the child without changing the legal status, any time is a good time to do this. If you use FAST DNA TESTING for your test, all test results will be delivered with utmost confidentially and are processed by their labs within 48 hours of receiving your samples.
